Freshmen Take Stage in Olympia

Some of the best ninth graders in Lewis, Thurston, Mason, and Grays Harbor Counties met up at Olympia High School’s Ingersoll Stadium for the South Sound Froshowcase on Wednesday.

W.F. West finished third out of the 11 teams attending in the girls meet. Lesie Morales won the long jump for the Bearcats at 15 feet, 4 inches, while KD Obtinario was first in the shot put (28 feet, 8 inches) and third in the discus (71 feet, 5 inches).

On the boys’ side, Fox Rogerson was second in both the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches) and the pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches), while Carson Smith was second in the shot put (37 feet, 3 inches) and third in the discus (88 feet, 8 inches).



Tumwater’s Rhylee Beebe showed out in the sprints, winning the 400 (1:05.61) and finishing second in the 200 (29.33) and third in the 100 (13:59). Paige Henderson won the girls discus at 81 feet even. On the boys’ side,  Jude Furubotten was second in the 1,600 (4:51.83).

Black Hills got two second-place finishes, from Kirsten Beaulieu in the 800 (2:41.42) and Hailey Tinsley in the javelin (73 feet, 8 inches). Mason Burke led the Wolves’ boys with a third-place finish in the 3,200 (11:00.74)
