Free sand sculpting lessons coming to Pacific County in August

Free sand sculpting lessons will soon be offered in Raymond.

A sand sculpture previously crafted by Jim Butler and Eric Wilber in a parking lot near the Northwest Carriage Museum will soon become “Lesson Beach,” where adults and children alike can take free sand sculpting lessons.

“Free lessons to the public have long been a staple of the Sandsations event in Long Beach, Washington, and now with the sand available in Raymond, we jumped on the chance to offer lessons in northern Pacific County,” said Laura Holmes, chairperson of the event.

Bert Adams, a master sculptor and a 30-year veteran of sand sculpting, will offer lessons from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

Families, adults and children are welcome.

“We are excited to see that the sculpture, which we’ve always known is a temporary work of public art, can continue to provide fun for the community,” said Laurie Bowman, executive director of the Northwest Carriage Museum, which facilitated the building of the sculpture near the museum’s parking lot.

Funds for both the building of the sculpture and for Lesson Beach were provided through a Pacific County lodging tax grant.

“Come learn technique and practice your skills,” the museum wrote in a release.
