Brett Jackson, a former Southeast Thurston Fire Authority paramedic in Yelm who recently retired as a Lacey Fire District 3 firefighter paramedic, died Thursday, Feb. 6 after a fall at his home.

Jackson began his career as a paramedic in Yelm before joining Lacey as a lateral firefighter paramedic in 2003. He earned many accolades from the communities he protected. Jackson retired in 2024 after 32 years of service to Thurston County and 24 years at Lacey Fire District 3.

Jackson’s heroic actions in March 2021, when he was among the paramedics who responded to Thurston County Deputy Andrea Moore after she was stabbed outside of Yelm, played a crucial role in her survival and recovery.

Lacey Fire District 3 and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office paid tribute to Jackson with social media posts following his death. Jackson is survived by his wife and three daughters.

“The Lacey fire family and the entire extended community extend their deepest condolences to Brett’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” Lacey Fire District 3 wrote in a Facebook post. “We ask that you keep them in your hearts and thoughts as they grieve the loss of their beloved husband, father and friends.”

“Brett’s dedication to his community was immeasurable — he not only saved countless lives throughout his career but also left a lasting impact on our own law enforcement family,” TCSO wrote. “Brett Jackson will forever be remembered as a hero by the Sheriff’s Office. His absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled, but his legacy of service, compassion and courage will endure in the hearts of those he touched.”

Details regarding a memorial service to celebrate Jackson’s life and honor his service will be released as they become available.
