Traveiah Houfmuse, 17, was one of two students shot and killed on Friday afternoon at a bus stop in Rainier Valley, according to the King County medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner’s office classified his death as a homicide and determined he died from gunshot wounds. The office said it is still working to confirm the identity of the other student that died alongside Houfmuse.

Both were students at Rainier Beach High School, according to an email sent by the school’s principal to families on Friday night.

Seattle police believe the shooting was targeted and did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community. The department still has no leads on potential suspects, and has asked anyone with information to contact SPD’s tip line at 206-233-5000.

Rainier Beach High School and three other nearby schools had a delayed start on Monday to give teachers time to prepare to welcome students with support. After school, students, staff and community members, including the district’s new superintendent, Ben Shuldiner, and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, gathered to honor the students at the bus stop. All schools resumed regular schedules Tuesday.
