Early Friday morning on Sept. 19, firefighters from Lewis County Fire District 9 (LCFD 9) in Mineral assisted neighboring Lewis County Fire District 4 firefighters in Morton with a “fully involved structure fire” in Morton, LCFD 9 stated in a Facebook post.
“Our crews worked alongside Morton firefighters through the night to bring the blaze under control and protect the surrounding area. We’re proud to support our neighboring departments — teamwork and mutual aid are what keep our communities safe,” LCFD 9 said. “Thank you to all the volunteers who answered the call.”
The structure, which ended up being a total loss, was a house located at 388 Davis Lake Road in Morton, just east of the intersection of Davis Lake and Temple roads.
The post made no mention of any injuries or suspected cause, and comments on a Morton area Facebook group indicated the house had been vacant for some time.
The Chronicle reached out to the Chehalis Fire Department, which handles fire investigations across Lewis County, to see if any cause had been determined yet.
As of Monday, Sept. 22, the investigation into the blaze was still ongoing. The 0.29 acre-property is owned by Abe Zimmerman, according to the Lewis County Parcels website.
