No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a shop in the 500 block of West Avery Road south of Napavine on Monday.

The pole barn that housed the business and its contents were completely destroyed, according to Lewis County District 5 Chief Dan Mahoney.

“They’re hopeful to rebuild as quickly as possible,” Mahoney said of the shop owners.

Lewis County Fire District 5 in Napavine responded to the fire alongside crews from Lewis County fire districts 6, 2, 8 and 1 at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, according to Mahoney.

Crews remained at the scene for approximately three hours — pumping over 30 gallons of water from tenders and from a pump station at the nearby Cardinal Glass warehouse facility to extinguish the fire.

Thanks to the work of the firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the single structure.

“Our guys did a really good job,” Mahoney said.

The fire did rekindle at around midnight and crews with District 5 returned to the site to re-extinguish it, according to Mahoney.
