Napavine outhit Toutle Lake in a non-league meeting on Saturday, but a flurry of fielding errors led to several unearned runs and helped the Ducks take down the Pirates 9-8.
The Tigers finished the day with seven errors in the field, leading to eight unearned runs for Toutle Lake, which did most of its damage in a seven-run fourth.
“Not a sharp outing for us,” Napavine coach Josh Fay said. “They capitalized on our mistakes. I didn’t have us prepared to play. We are going to have to work on finding ways to help our team and worry less about ourselves … We need to take care of things sooner rather than later.”
Offensively, the Tigers did enough to stay in it, scoring twice in the first and three runs in both the third and fourth, but neither team scored across the final three innings of play.
Hayden Kaut drilled three doubles and drove in three runs, while Kyla Kirkpatrick added a double, another hit, and an RBI of her own. Taylen Evander also drove in a run, as did Clara Fay and Paytin Wheeler.
Lyons pitched the final three innings for the Tigers, allowing just one hit while striking out three.
Napavine (4-1) will look to bounce back from its first loss on Tuesday in Pe Ell against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley.
