Ferguson tosses no-hitter in Thunderbirds blowout win

Fueled by a no-hitter from Ella Ferguson and seven-run outburst, Tumwater man-handled R.A. Long 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday night at home.

Ferguson went the distance and allowed just one walk while firing 12 strikeouts. She threw 69 pitches on the day and 53 of them were strikes. She had more than enough run support to beat a Lumberjacks unit that qualified for 2A state last year.

Some of it was the junior’s own doing.

The top two hitters in the Thunderbirds lineup, Ferguson and Megan Barrett, each notched three hits and drove in two runs. Marissa LaPraim and Sarah Stevens also added two RBIs. Their offense was helped by R.A. Long’s three errors.

A 2-0 lead for Tumwater ballooned to 9-0 behind seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two more were added in the fifth to enact the mercy rule.
