A 29-year-old Everett man died Tuesday after a school bus driver struck his car on Interstate 5 near Marysville during the morning commute.

The bus driver and man's Ford Focus were in the northbound HOV lane shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday when the crash occurred. No children were on the school bus, and the bus driver was injured and taken to an area hospital.

The school bus was traveling north in the HOV lane and the Ford Focus was stopped in the lane for an unknown reason. The bus driver struck the man's car and both vehicles came to a rest, blocking the lane.

Both drivers were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center, where the man in the Ford died from his injuries.

The left three lanes were closed Tuesday morning while Washington State Patrol troopers investigated, before lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m.
