Equestrians From Across Lewis County Ride to State Tournament

The W.F. West High School equestrian team, made up of students from schools across Lewis County, punched several tickets to state this year in various categories.

Athletes also took home hardware for several district competitions, including a gold medal for the large drill team’s performance. They went undefeated in the district this season after heading to regionals in the category last year.

In each category, the top three or top 10% of athletes in the district head to state, whichever number is higher. The state tournament is held in Moses Lake on the weekend of May 19-21.

 

Other state qualifiers in all categories along with their district placements are as follows:

Breakaway roping: Jeznee Journee, third place

Steer daubing: Journee, third place

Reining: Savanna Dorning, first place

Hunt seat: Isabel Thompson, third place

Dressage: Maizy Samuelson, second place

Barrels: Josey Majors, third place; Shaylie Flanery 

Flags: Flanery, first place

Keyhole: Madison Smith, first place; Dorning

In hand trail: Kylee Smith, first place 

In hand obstacle relay: Journee, Thompson, Navea Dunn and Charlotte Barber, first place



Two-man birangle: Majors, Cyndle Haller, second place

Canadian flag race: Raylee Anderson, Reagan Olson, Violet Ratkie and Kylee Smith, second place

Pole bending: Majors, second place; Journee; Kylee Smith; Madison Smith

Riders who earned the top spots as state alternates are as follows:
