Emblem Club members eat Irish food, view canines

Centralia-Chehalis Emblem Club

Women of the Centralia-Chehalis Emblem Club No. 163 served an Irish dinner for members March 11.

Kathy Dweyer, from the group Paws with a Cause, was there to provide information and a demonstration. The non-profit group trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities.

Dweyer, a trainer, put demonstration dog Rico through his paces. She issued commands to the black Labrador retriever, who immediately obeyed. Eclipse, a 5 1/2-month-old foster puppy, also performed.

Dancing followed the dinner and demonstration.

St. Urban Grange

St. Urban Grange, Winlock, is to host a pinochle card party and family fun night April 8 at 7 p.m.

Participants will be able to choose from single-deck pinochle, board games and card games. Coffee, tea, juice and light refreshments will be available. This is an alcohol- and smoke-free evening.

A suggested donation of $2 will be accepted. Those interested may call Patricia Knapp at 748-4297 for information. St. Urban Grange is located at the corner of North Military and Sargent roads, Winlock.

Cowlitz Prairie Grange

Members of Cowlitz Prairie Grange met March 22.

Sweaters made throughout the year by Grange members were sent off, along with a letter.

Chairwoman of women's activities entries are due today at St. Urbans Grange, Winlock, between 10 a.m. and noon. Winners of purple ribbons will advance to the state competition.

Bill and Pomey Hughes will be the delegates for the state convention in June. Lewis and Jan Rohrig are alternates.

The Spring Youth Fair is May 6-7. Volunteers signed up to help with the child identification program.



Jackpot drawing was won by Tom Boone. Membership drawing was won by Arlene Murley. Ester Kletsch, Bill Hughes, John Hadaller, John Fishburn and Don Pierce won prize drawings.

Next meeting is scheduled for April 12. Potluck begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Logan Hill Grange

Logan Hill Grange members met March 18.

It was reported Bob and Patty Knapp were among the winners in the Pomona baking contest. They will go on to compete at the state Grange convention in Puyallup in June.

April is Grange month; members will put a display at Bowman Insurance, Centralia.

Information was given about the Mayfield Lake Junior Grange Camp. The camp is for children ages 9-14, and will be held July 23-29 at Mayfield Lake Youth Camp near Mossyrock.

A motion was passed to support the State Youth Department by purchasing raffle tickets. It was announced volunteers are desired for the child identification booth at the spring youth fair May 6-7. The booth is sponsored by the Pomona Grange.

Next meeting of Logan Hill Grange will be April 15 at 8 p.m., preceded by a potluck at 6:30 p.m.

Logan Hill Homemakers Club

Elaine Gorter and Fran Glase hosted the March 16 meeting of the Logan Hill Homemakers Club. Nine members and one guest were present.

Betty Withers conducted the business portion of the meeting. Members worked on decorations for the three-club spring meeting to be held May 11 at Logan Hill Grange.

Canned food and monetary donations were collected for the local food bank.

Next meeting will take place April 20 at Logan Hill Grange. Marylyn Denton and Rosalie Bowman will be co-hostesses.
