A 19-year-old Portlander died and four others were injured in a rear-end crash on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield early Saturday morning.

Sadie L. Bobo, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an incident report.

She was a passenger in a car driven by Skylar M. Wainis, 23, of Longview, Washington, who now faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault following the crash, authorities said.

According to authorities, Wainis was driving south on I-5 when his vehicle rear-ended another car in the first lane around 4:52 a.m. After the initial collision, Wainis’ vehicle crossed through the second and third lanes, struck a cable barrier and came to rest on the left shoulder.

The second vehicle, driven by 76-year-old Young H. Chun of Beaverton left the roadway after being hit, traveled through a Washington Department of Transportation fence and came to a stop blocking Delfel Road.

Octovio L. Aguilar, 19, of Portland, another passenger in Wainis’ vehicle who was not wearing a seatbelt, was injured and transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center.

Chun and his passenger, 69-year-old Bikja Sung of Beaverton, were both wearing seatbelts but also sustained injuries requiring transportation to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center.

Wainis was also injured in the crash and taken to the same medical facility. The report indicates it’s unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
