Two Chehalis men were hospitalized after their vehicle crashed on Interstate 5 in Grand Mound on Saturday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Artemio M. Contreras, 25, Chehalis, was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat northbound at mile marker 88 at about 11 p.m. when the crash occurred. The Passat struck the left side barrier, crossed all lanes of traffic and came to rest on the freeway. The interstate was partially blocked for three hours and five minutes.

Contreras was transported to Tacoma General Hospital. His passenger, Leoncio M. De Los Santos, 41, of Chehalis, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Neither of the men were wearing seat belts, according to the state patrol.

Contreras could face charges for driving under the influence, according to the state patrol, which indicated drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The Passat was totaled.
