A 65-year-old Salem, Oregon, man died after a crash on state Route 505 in Toledo on Wednesday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The man, who was not identified pending the notification of his next of kin, was traveling south near Henriot Road at about 6:20 a.m. when his vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet, struck the back of a semi-truck traveling in front of him, according to the state patrol.
The second vehicle, a logging truck hauling a trailer, was driven by Caleb J. Durrah, 23, of Woodland. He had slowed for traffic when the crash occurred. Durrah, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.
The Salem man died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the state patrol.
The cause of the crash, according to the state patrol, was following too close. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, the state patrol reported.
