Driver facing DUI, vehicular assault charges after crashing into trees off Interstate 5 in Thurston County

A Gig Harbor man is facing vehicular assault and DUI charges after he left the roadway and crashed into multiple trees, injuring himself and his passenger, on northbound Interstate 5 in Thurston County on Tuesday. 

The Washington State Patrol was dispatched to the crash, which occurred near milepost 97 just north of Littlerock on northbound I-5, at 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. 

The vehicle was reportedly in the middle lane when it left the roadway to the right, coming to rest in a ditch on the right shoulder, according to the state patrol. 



The driver, identified by law enforcement as Derek Farr, 46, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for medical treatment. 

His passenger, a 36-year-old woman from Kaysville, Utah, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
