In celebration of Centralia's 150th anniversary this year, the Timberland Regional Library (TRL) has partnered with the Centralia Downtown Association (CDA) to offer an exclusive library card featuring the city's founder, George Washington.

The card will only be available at the Centralia branch. The offering was launched on June 10, with only 1,000 cards available, according to a news release from the organizations.

The Centralia Timberland Library, a historic Carnegie-funded building, was first opened in 1913. It’s still owned by the City of Centralia today and is a key landmark on the Centralia Downtown Association’s historic walking tour. When Timberland Regional Library took over management in 1968, services expanded to include access to a larger collection of books and resources, growing into what it is today.

The limited edition cards are free to residents by a simple application process. They can be obtained in person at the Centralia Timberland Library at 110 S. Silver St. in Centralia during normal business hours.

Matthew Anthony, of the Untamed Method consulting firm, which contracts with the CDA, put together the design for the library card, which features Centralia's founder with his dog, Rockwood.

The design matches the 150 limited edition postcards the CDA has available for purchase, as well as a new set of banners to be hung throughout downtown in the coming weeks to celebrate Centralia's 150th anniversary.
