Centralia’s Suki Bringman and Stephanie Sanchez-Gomez found themselves just one game away from losing their match against Aberdeen’s No. 3 doubles team on Tuesday, but the pair of Tigers came back to win and helped Centralia top Aberdeen 4-2.
Bringman and Sanchez Gomez lost the first set of their doubles match and were down 5-0 in the second set, but they won the next seven games to force a third set. They completed the comeback by taking the final set 6-2.
“Their ability to make adjustments and stay composed under pressure exemplifies the resilience and competitive spirit we strive for,” Centralia assistant coach Carissa Kaut said.
The comeback also capped a doubles sweep for Centralia, as Madison Breckel and Brook Frakes won their match 6-2, 6-2 and Saryn Pelesky and Neela Haywood won their matchup 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Esther Hopkins grabbed the Tigers’ singles win, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
“I’m really proud of our players,” Kaut said. “It’s not easy having match after match canceled, but they came out ready to go.”
Centralia will be back at home on Wednesday, when it takes on W.F. West.
