Heading into a blockbuster game against Adna on Saturday, the Toledo boys basketball team is still undefeated in Central 2B League play as the Riverhawks disposed of Winlock 60-24 Thursday night.
Eli Weeks helped the Riverhawks gain an early lead with nine first-quarter points before Toledo sprinted to halftime on a 17-2 run in the second quarter. The Riverhawks kept their foot on the gas pedal with a 27-14 second half.
“We’re trying to break the game into little goals. Obviously, you want to win the game, but we were trying to give ourselves little things to work on,” Toledo head coach Grady Fallon said. “We were trying to focus on Freddy Patching, and we held him to zero in that quarter and six overall. The fast break was the other thing that got us going.”
Cooper Fallon led all scorers with 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to go along with four steals and two blocks. He even knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. Weeks finished with 13, while three Riverhawks — Adam Kruger, Trevin Gale and Nico Acosta — each scored six.
Arean Thapa scored nine for Winlock, and Patching added six.
Toledo (8-1, 7-0 C2BL) hosts Adna (11-2, 9-0 C2BL) on Saturday in what promises to be another close battle. Toledo won two of three matchups against Adna last year, including a 60-59 overtime win to clinch the District 4 2B championship.
“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be packed. It should be a battle,” Grady Fallon said. “It gives you a good test on a high-quality team, which is the end goal.”
