Discover! Children’s Museum will open its doors next month with a grand opening event at the newly constructed United Learning Center in Centralia.
The local museum announced over the weekend that it will host its grand opening event in its new museum space on Saturday, April 25. The opening celebrates the creation of a permanent home for the locally developed museum which has been “more than a decade in the making,” organizers stated in a news release.
The opening also marks the completion and occupancy of the newly constructed United Learning Center in Centralia. The United Way of Lewis County, the lead on the project that will host The Discover! Children’s Museum and much more, announced last week that it would hold a ribbon-cutting event for the building on Thursday, May 14.
“With interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, Discover! Children’s Museum encourages kids to experiment, imagine, and discover the world around them,” reads the recent news release announcing the opening of the museum.
The Discover! Children’s Museum is a homegrown interactive museum originally dreamed up by two Lewis County educators and parents. The new location will be the museum's one and only location and the first it has had since an 11-month pilot museum opened back in 2013, according to the museum website.
“Discover! Children’s Museum was built by the community and for the community,” said Board Chair Larry McGee. “Since the 2013 pilot museum first sparked this vision, we are incredibly grateful to the many people who believed in it and helped bring it to life.”
According to the museum, parents and guardians should expect a bright and hands-on experience for their children that supports early learning and creativity. Families interested in attending the grand opening of the museum can find more information on the museum's social media accounts or on its website at www.discovermuseum.org.
The United Learning Center will also host a Bezos Academy Montessori-style pre-school and an additional location for the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County.
