Dirty Thumb Nursery in Adna launched its first pumpkin patch this Halloween season.
The nursery will have all kinds of decorative gourds, edible squashes and a u-pick area full of carving pumpkins visitors can choose from themselves. Additionally, the business has a large selection of mums, asters, kales and fall perennials for garden and patio decor.
Dirty Thumb will be expanding the fall festivities every year to include more activities and attractions.
Festivities this year include a carving contest, a coloring contest, a gift basket raffle and an end-of-season clearance sale.
A carving contest will be held on Oct. 11 for $5. Guests 12 or younger can carve a pumpkin of any size and the nursery will post pictures online to be voted on. The guests then get to take their freshly-carved pumpkins home.
Dirty Thumb recently held a coloring contest for all children in Adna and Chehalis elementary schools. The roughly 1,000 K through third grade participants took home their coloring sheets and can submit them completed to the nursery at any time to receive a free pumpkin. A winner from each grade from each school will be chosen and will receive a gift basket and gift card, the nursery told The Chronicle.
The nursery will also be raffling off two gift baskets this month, a fall basket and a Christmas basket. The contents of the baskets include a handmade quilt, a handcarved wooden bear, a gift certificate to the nursery and other items.
All proceeds from the raffle are matched by Dirty Thumb and go to adopting families at Christmas through the Chehalis School District, according to the nursery.
Dirty Thumb Nursery is currently having an end-of-season clearance sale on a selection of plants, including roses for $14.95, 75% off perennials and 25% of trees and shrubs.
October hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The nursery is located at 1580 state Route 6, Adna.
