Dick’s Northwest Sausage and Deli celebrating 40th anniversary this month

Dick’s Northwest Sausage and Deli will be celebrating its 40th anniversary during the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce’s October Business After Hours event, according to a news release from the chamber.

The business is also celebrating the anniversary with special deals throughout the month.

The public is welcome to attend the Business After Hours event at Dick’s Northwest Sausage and Deli from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19. The business is located at 5945 Prather Road SW in Centralia.

Attendees can enjoy samples and enter into raffles for commemorative items.

“And of course, Dick’s beer will also be on tap,” Dick’s co-owner Julie Pendleton said in the release.

The deli was originally established in 1983 by Pendleton’s father, Richard “Dick” Young, who wanted to bring old-world custom smoked meats to the Centralia community. Additionally, he provided meat processing for hunters, which the deli still does to this day.

Young’s passion for custom smoked meats was matched only by his passion for brewing beer, which he also started doing at the deli. He started homebrewing and having customers try his beer, but demand for his beer began to grow faster than he could brew.

“While Dick’s Northwest Sausage and Deli is where the legacy began, the beer quickly required expansion, and today Dick’s Brewing on Galvin Road in Centralia is now its own thriving business,” the release stated.

By 1994, Young officially opened Dick’s Brewing Company.
