Democrat Cara Cusack Appears Headed to Face Incumbent Republican Joel McEntire in Race for 19th District Representative

Democrat Cara Cusack appeared on track to face incumbent state Rep. Joel McEntire, R-Cathlamet, for the 19th Legislative District’s state Representative Position 2 on Tuesday night, beating out self-described “Progressive Democrat” Jon-Erik Hegstad. 

As of 8:30 on Tuesday evening, Cusack had received 7,329 votes, or 32.63%, to Hegstad’s 1,826 votes, or 8.13%. McEntire was in first place with 13,276 votes, or 59.1%. There were 32 write-in votes.

In the race for the 19th District’s Representative Position 1, both candidates will be advancing to the general election. Incumbent Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen, led with 13,502 votes, or 59.76%, to Democratic challenger Kelli Hughes-Ham’s 9,059 40.09%. There were an additional 34 write-in votes cast. 



In the 20th Legislative District, both incumbent state Reps. Ed Orcutt, R-Kalama, and Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, were running unopposed. Orcutt had received a total of 16,709 for a total of 95.03% of the vote, with 874 write-in votes for a total of 4.97%. Abbarno had received a slightly larger 16,756 votes, 94.96%, with 889 write-in votes for a total of 5.04%.
