Layna Demers made the difference at the plate and in the circle for Rochester on Tuesday, hitting a two-run home run and striking out 15 batters to lead the Warriors to a 3-2 victory over Woodland.
After striking out three batters in the top of the first, Demers helped herself with her two-run blast to center field, and the Warriors tacked on another on a Piper Quarnstrom sacrifice fly in the second.
Outside of an unearned run in the sixth, Demers was in complete control. She threw 69 of her 110 pitches for strikes, and she ended up allowing just two hits and two unearned runs.
Hailey Boyd was the lone Warriors to record multiple hits, while Addison Morgan, Leah Hartley, and McKenna Vassar also collected hits.
Rochester (6-2, 4-0 1A Evergreen) will head to Walla Walla this weekend for a tournament, and the Warriors’ first matchup will be against Meridian on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. They’ll also take on Riverside in the afternoon.
