Fueled by 16 steals and some mixture of press defenses, the Onalaska High School boys basketball team curbstomped Winlock 66-24 on Saturday afternoon at home in C2BL action.
Winners of five of their last six, the Loggers (8-7, 7-5 C2BL) are in fourth in the standings, a game up on Rainier in the win column. They blitzed the Cardinals to the tune of 40 first half points and allowed only six.
Maddox McKinley led with 17 points while Austin Sturza plus Noland Brady each had 13 points for Onalaska. McKinley, Sturza, Haze Hamrick and Angel Cerseda all finished with multiple steals. The Loggers will battle Toledo on the road on Wednesday night.
“We set a goal to come out and be extremely aggressive today,” Loggers head coach Fred Sturza said. “We finally started knocking down some shots.”
Winlock (2-12, 1-10) scored more than 10 points in a quarter once. It was led by Freddy Patching’s eight points and multiple players had three. The Cardinals will look to snap their 13-game skid against Pe Ell on Tuesday.
