Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Legal Aid has announced a new name as well as an expanded mission, according to a news release.
Now known as Timberland Legal Aid, the organization is growing to serve Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Lewis and Pacific counties, offering civil legal services under a new banner: “Justice Grows Here.”
“As someone who has worked with families and children in crisis for over three decades, I’ve seen firsthand how access to legal services can positively change lives,” said Charlotte Rosen, vice president of the Timberland Legal Aid Board of Directors. “The expansion of Timberland Legal Aid’s services comes at a critical time for our communities in the region. Too many people in our region face overwhelming barriers when navigating the legal system alone. This organization provides not only guidance but stability to those who need it most. I’m proud to serve on a board that is growing its reach while staying deeply rooted in justice.”
Timberland Legal Aid will continue to provide free and low-cost civil legal support in family law, protection orders, housing, bankruptcy, real property and wills and estates, the release stated. The organization works with local attorneys to ensure community members can access the legal system.
“Our new name reflects both our broader regional commitment and the deep roots we continue to grow in the communities we serve,” Lori Sarancik, executive director of Timberland Legal Aid. “We are grounded in ensuring access and support for those facing legal challenges that threaten their safety, stability and future.”
In addition to these ongoing services, Timberland Legal Aid is also expanding to provide immigration legal support, which the release stated is a critical need in communities across the region. The expansion complements existing offerings, such as legal clinics, community education presentations, free legal forms and case managers.
Timberland Legal Aid remains dedicated to serving people who face high barriers to self-representation, especially in complex or urgent legal matters. Most services are offered through legal advice clinics, consultations and, when needed, full or limited legal representation.
