A Washington seafood wholesaler is recalling more than 3,300 pounds of Costco-brand poke that may be contaminated with listeria.
Annasea Foods Group — a company based in Kent, Washington, that’s also one of the largest supplier of fresh and frozen poke — announced Saturday it would recall several thousand pounds of its Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, per a U.S. Food and Drug Administration notice.
The poke product was sold last week in the deli section of Costco locations across 33 states, including in Oregon and Washington.
It was packaged in clear clamshell to-go containers and labeled with the Kirkland Signature brand, as well as a “Pack Date” of Sept. 18 and “Sell By Date” of Sept. 22.
Annasea Foods Group’s green onion supplier notified the company that its green onions — used solely in the Sept. 17 batch of Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke — had tested positive for listeria monocytogenes, according to the recall notice.
Listeria infection, known as listeriosis, can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, as well as diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms. It can cause miscarriages or premature delivery during pregnancy and can be fatal for people with weakened immune systems. It is treated with antibiotics.
No illnesses have been reported by the company.
Consumers should dispose of the product immediately and visit their local Costco for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Annasea Foods Group by phone at (425) 558-7809 or by email at info@annasea.com.
