The Lewis County Coroner’s Office has identified the attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm suspect who the sheriff’s office reported died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound as investigators closed in on him in the Randle area earlier this month.

The man has been identified as Vannak Yun, 53, of Seattle.

“The cause of death is penetrating contact gunshot wound to the head and the manner is pending further investigation,” the Lewis County Coroner’s Office stated in a news release.

Law enforcement officials from Kent and Lewis County reportedly contacted Yun in the 800 block of Falls Road in Randle at about 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 after the Kent Police Department developed probable cause to arrest him.

As law enforcement officials approached the vehicle, which was occupied by the suspect and a passenger, the suspect sustained “what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“Life-saving measures were taken; however, the suspect was later pronounced deceased at the scene,” according to the sheriff’s office. “On-scene law enforcement did not discharge their firearms during the incident.”

Details on the alleged crimes that led to the attempted arrest of Yun have not been released.
