The 55-year-old Vader man who was killed after crashing into a tree on Sunday, April 6, has been identified by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

James W. McGinnis died due to blunt force trauma to the head, and the manner was an accident, Lewis County Coroner Warren McLeod told The Chronicle.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office had not released information about the fatal crash until The Chronicle inquired on Tuesday, April 15.

Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the crash near the intersection of Jackson Highway and Rakoz Road in the Toledo area at approximately 7:24 a.m. on April 6, Special Services Chief Gabe Frase said.

The vehicle was likely traveling southbound on Jackson Highway when it crossed the northbound lane, left the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to Frase.

“It appeared it may have been there for quite some time before someone came across it,” Frase said Tuesday.

McGinnis was pronounced deceased when deputies and medical personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 7:39 a.m.
