The Lewis County Coroner's Office has identified human remains found in Centralia last May.

The individual was identified as Gerald D. Armstrong, age 50.

“Tips from the public called in after the release of the forensic artist’s sketch led to the scientific positive identification,” the coroner’s office reported in a news release Thursday. “The family has been notified and our thanks go out to the folks who called our tip hotline.”

The coroner’s office last week released sketches based on two sets of human remains found in Lewis County this year.

The first set of remains was found in Winlock on March 2. The preliminary anthropological report indicated an 18- to 35-year-old white or hispanic male who was between 5-foot-7 and 6-foot-2.

The second was a set of remains found in Centralia on May 17. The preliminary anthropological report indicated a 40- to 70-year-old white male who was between 5-foot-5 and 6 feet tall.

Sketches of each person were prepared by a forensic artist using the anthropological markers, but the coroner’s office reminded viewers hair length, type and color were drawn using artistic license as they cannot be determined scientifically. There is also no way to determine facial hair.

Anyone with possible information is asked to call the Lewis County Coroner’s Office at the dedicated tip line at 360-740-3367. If there is no answer, messages can be left and they will be checked twice daily.
