The man who died in what authorities are calling a workplace accident at River Mill Dam and Powerhouse last week has been publicly identified as 68-year-old Noel Robert Frederick of Eureka, Montana.
A Portland General Electric employee also was injured in the May 14 accident, officials said. The condition of that person, whose name hasn’t been released, is not known.
Frederick, a contractor, was at the hydroelectric dam to test equipment. The accident happened “during testing operations,” the sheriff’s office said.
The River Mill Dam and Powerhouse, in unincorporated Clackamas County near Estacada, was built in 1911 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The dam currently produces enough power for more than 10,000 homes.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
