Construction Set to Start Soon on New Roundabout in Grand Mound

A contractor is scheduled to begin construction on a new roundabout in Grand Mound at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Sargent Road Southwest at the end of September with completion expected sometime in fall 2023.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on the highway throughout the project, but commuters can expect delays and reduced speed limits in construction zones. The roundabout is being built to accommodate expected urban growth in the upcoming years, as U.S. Highway 12 is a major route that is used to connect Interstate 5 with Grays Harbor County.

The roundabout is designed to be expanded to a four-lane highway in the future if needed. According to a Thurston County news release, the roundabout was chosen as they have been shown to reduce accident severity as well as maintain good traffic flows.

The project is expected to cost $6 million, and both the county and the Chehalis Tribe are contributing funding.
