A community recycling event will offer Lewis County residents and businesses an opportunity to recycle paint and related items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in the parking lot of the Blue Pavilion at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, 1909 S. Gold St., Centralia, according to a news release from the Lewis County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Utility.

The department is partnering with GreenSheen, an eco-friendly paint recycling company, to offer the free event to the public. GreenSheen collected 80,228 gross pounds of latex paint and 6,461 pounds of gross oil-based paint from Lewis County residents and businesses during a recycling event in Centralia in March, the release stated.

Organizers report that it will help them with planning if customers pre-register to bring items to the event, so they schedule enough staff and equipment. Residents and businesses can pre-register at https://circular.eco/event/Lewis92025. Pre-registration is not required.

Items accepted at the event include:

• Latex paint

• Oil-based paint

• Stains and shellacs

• Lacquers, sealers and varnishes

• Urethanes and textured coatings

• Unlimited 5 gallon or smaller containers

Items not accepted at the event include:

• Aerosol paint (spray can)

• Paint thinner

• Solvents

• Cleaning agents

• Drywall mud

• Roof patch

• Adhesives

For safety purposes, this event will be set up as a drive-through event. Customers will be required to remain in their vehicles. Anyone with questions about the event can email events@greensheenpaint.com.
