Defensive Tactics Class

May 4 at Toledo New Life Church, 420 Silver St., Toledo; 6 to 8 p.m.

This class is one of eight put on by Toledo’s Crime Deterrent Program and is for women and girls. The class is taught by Tiffany Schumann and Bill Garrison. Schumann served nine years in the U.S. Army, three of which she spent as a combative instructor, and trained with several Elite Force Groups. Garrison has been a martial arts teacher since 16 and holds a brown belt in jiu jitsu and a black belt in aikido. Both live in Toledo. The event is free. If interested in attending, send an email to bill.linn@toledowa.us to pre-register. Classes are designed for all age groups though it is suggested girls be at least 7 years old.

 

Centralia Police Department Community Meeting

May 4 at Centralia City Hall, 118 W. Maple St., Centralia; 6 to 8 p.m.

This meeting will focus on emergency response and will be an opportunity for citizens of Centralia to meet with police officers to discuss issues within their neighborhoods. 

 

AAUW May Program

May 4 at The Gathering Place at Stillwater Estate, 1165 Stillwater Ave., Centralia; 6:30 p.m.

Gretchen Staebler, the author of “Mother Lode: Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver,” will discuss the ups and downs of family caregiving and her experiences writing and publishing her memoir. All are welcome to attend.

 

Acoustic Music Jam

May 5 at the Faith Baptist Church, 436 Coal Creek Road, Chehalis; 10 a.m. to noon

This event is sponsored by the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association. The jam will feature old time and bluegrass music as well as Celtic, Scandinavian and Cajun music. The jam is free and open to the public with all ages welcome to attend. The event is beginner friendly. Attendees do not need to be members of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association. Centralia College Rising Tides Presentation

May 5 at Centralia College, 600 Centralia College Blvd., Centralia; noon to 1 p.m.

Centralia Public Works Director Kim Ashmore will speak on the history of China Creek and current restoration plans. The talk will take place at the Walton Science Center in room 121.

 

Juice Box Night Market

May 5 at The Juice Box, 216 S. Tower Ave., Centralia; 6 to 10 p.m.

There will be live music, local art and food. This is a free event. The event is family friendly.

 

Mother’s Day Boutique, Craft Fair and Bake Sale

May 5 and 6 at St. Francis Xavier Mission Hall, 139 Spencer Road, Toledo

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Friday, May 5 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Saturday, May 6. A raffle will be held with an entry fee of $5. Lunch will be available for purchase. For more information, call 360-864-4126.

 

Spring Benefit Garage Sale

May 5 and 6 at 17028 Violet Prairie Road, Tenino; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Violet Prairie Grange is hosting the event. All sales are by donation and all proceeds go toward community projects and the group’s “matching grant” fund. There will also be a homemade lunch counter and complementary coffee. For more information, call 360-481-1386.

 

Spring Youth Fair

May 5, 6 and 7 at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, 1909 S. Gold St., Centralia

Entry night for all divisions will be on Tuesday, May 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. Information and entry forms are available online at springyouthfair.org. 

 

Mothers Day 5K Run/Walk

May 6 at the Napavine Football Stadium, 404 Fourth Ave. NE, Napavine; 7:30 a.m.

This event is sponsored by the Napavine Booster Club. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and a warm up will be held on the football field at 8. The run/walk will start at 8:30. The route covers the Napavine area and will end at the football field. The entry fee is $25 for adults and $5 for children. 

 

Tenino Farmers Market 

May 6 in Downtown Tenino on South Olympia St., 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Tenino Farmers Market is held every Saturday until the end of September.

 

Vader May Day Festival

May 6 in Vader, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This event will feature a breakfast, a parade, kids games, a maypole dance and other activities. There will be a space theme. Vendors open at 10:30 a.m. with the parade beginning at 11. The May Pole Dance, a cake walk and kids games begin at noon. Parade awards will be given at 12:15 p.m. and a raffle drawing will take place at 1. The festival will close at 3 p.m.

 

Packwood Mountain Festival Fun Run

May 6 at the Packwood Timberland Regional Library, 109 Main St. W., Packwood; 9 a.m.

The race will include a 10k, 5k and a 1k kid’s dash. The registration fee is $20 for the 10k and 5k, though the fee will be $25 on the day of the race. The 1k kid’s dash will be free. For more information, call 360-494-4007.



 

Fuchsia Plant Sale

May 6 at The Centralia Outlet Mall, 1301 Lum Road, Centralia; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The plant sale will be by the Eddie Bauer and is presented by the Fuchsia Fanciers.

 

Tenino Japanese Festival

May 6 at Tenino High School, 500 W. Second Ave., Tenino; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free. There will be an Okinawa taiko drumming at 3 p.m. There will be arts and crafts, a martial arts demo, a samurai costume try on, Japanese games, and Japanese food for sale. 

 

“You Are My Sunshine” Mother’s Day Brunch

May 8 at the Church of the Nazarene Meeting Room, 1119 W. First St., Centralia; 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Chehalis Farmers Market Plant Sale

May 9 on Boistfort St. in Downtown Chehalis; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The farmers market is opening its 19th season with a plant sale. The market has over 25 farmers and vendors selling items. Winlock Cemetery District Public Meeting

May 10 at 407 Cowlitz Road, Winlock; 7 p.m.

The public is invited to this meeting. Meetings take place on the second Wednesday of each month. 

 

Lewis County Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

May 11 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1119 W. First St., Centralia

Cornhole Tournament to Raise Money for Special Needs Students

May 13 at Dick’s Brewing, 3516 Galvin Road, Centralia; 11:30 a.m.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament will last from 12 to 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and only those ages 21 and over may enter. There will be four round-robin games, a single elimination tournament, beer, food, prizes, raffles and a dessert auction. Partners will be chosen by random drawing to make the tournament more fun for players of all skill levels from beginner to advanced. 

 

Mother’s Day Night Market by Gemini Events

May 13 at Jester Auto Museum, 321 Hamilton Road, Chehalis; 3 to 8 p.m.

Visitors can shop from over 40 vendors. Admission and parking is free.

 

Centralia Police Department Community Meeting

May 16 at Borst Park Kitchen #2, Centralia; 6 to 8 p.m.

Centralia Mothers of Preschoolers Garage Sale

May 20 at Grace Foursquare Church, 3030 Borst Ave., Centralia; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be clothes for infants to adults, shoes, household items, toys, strollers and more. There will also be a bake sale.

 

21st Annual Master Gardener Home and Garden Show

May 20 and 21 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds, 32 Elma McCleary Road, Elma

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. Admission and parking are free. There will be presentations on gardening issues. There will also be a Master Gardener store providing opportunities to buy items to support the group. 

 

Second Annual Mattress Fundraiser

May 20 at the W.F. West High School Commons, 342 SW 16th St., Chehalis; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
