Tenino Young-At-Heart Theatre presents “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”

July 26-29 at Tenino High School 500 W. Second St., Tenino; 7 p.m. on weekdays, 2 p.m. on Saturday. 

Tenino Young-At-Heart Theatre will present its summer musical, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” at Tenino High School beginning Thursday, July 20. 

General admission is $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors. A pay-what-you-can performance is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://teninoyoungathearttheatre.org/tickets/. 

Ryderwood Centennial

TOAD presents ‘The Spongebob Musical: Youth Edition’ 

July 28-30 at the Evergreen Playhouse, 226 W. Center St., Centralia; 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday 

The Theatre of Arts Discipline (TOAD) will present “The Spongebob Musical: Youth Edition” at the Evergreen Playhouse July 28-30. 

Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg and featuring original songs from a variety of rock and pop artists, “The Spongebob Musical: Youth Edition” follows Spongebob and his friends as they come together to save Bikini Bottom from a looming volcano eruption, according to the show’s website.  

The cast features youth ages 8-18 who are enrolled in TOAD’s summer camp.

Coal Creek Auction drop-off

July 28 at 558 Coal Creek Road, Chehalis; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Birds, eggs, rabbits, buckets, cages and animal-related items are accepted. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. the following day. For those who need to drop off those roosters you didn’t know you were buying in May, now is the time. Funds can be collected on Saturday or can be donated to the auction’s nonprofit of choice.

 

2023 Chehalis Music in the Park Concert Series 

July 28 at Recreation Park, 401 SW Parkland Drive in Chehalis; 7 p.m.

Free to attend, enjoy the music of Randy and Jason Linder, and the Traveling Wilburys Revue in the second of three free concerts organized by the City of Chehalis.  

 

ChehalisFest will take to the Mint City streets on Saturday

ChehalisFest, an annual summer celebration hosted by community organization Experience Chehalis, will hit the streets of the Mint City on July 29 for people of all ages.

The festival offers activities for kids and families, car fanatics and “folks of all ages” throughout the day, according to an Experience Chehalis news release.

Events will include live music, a vendor fair, and sales and events at businesses downtown. 

ChehalisFest begins with a blueberry pancake breakfast at the Lewis County Historical Museum from 8 to 11 a.m. A street fair will be held near the intersection of Prindle Street and Chehalis Avenue with games, face painting, balloon art and Gemini Events’ ChehalisFest vendors selling local arts and crafts.

Experience Chehalis will also host a scavenger hunt at outdoor locations throughout the downtown area. With each location visited, participants will earn entries into a drawing for $200 in local gift cards. New this year, according to a news release, participants will also earn special discounts and giveaways at nearby businesses. 

Garbe’s is sponsoring the annual ChehalisFest Car Show. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the car show kicks off at 9 a.m. Awards will be announced at 3 p.m.  

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Chehalis, the Veterans Memorial Museum and Experience Chehalis.

Musicians will perform near the car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will move inside Garbe’s in the afternoon. Garbe’s will host a beer garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Prindle Street.

Totally Pawsome and Shona’s Food Company will be hosting anniversary celebrations, according to Experience Chehalis, and the Southwest Washington Dance Center will host performances throughout the day. 

“ChehalisFest is made possible through the collaborative efforts of local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers who have dedicated their time and resources to create an exceptional celebration that brings the community together,” the news release stated.

Lewis County Fire District 5 levy community meeting 

July 29 at the Newaukum Golf Course clubhouse, 153 Newaukum Golf Drive ; 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Residents of the fire district are invited to a community meeting to discuss the levy on the upcoming Aug. 1 primary election ballot. 

 

M.U.S.I.K. Extravaganza 

July 29, Pine Street Plaza in Centralia; 7 p.m. 

The Lewis County Music Teachers Association will host “an evening of musical frivolity” called M.U.S.I.K. Extravaganza on Saturday, July 29. The name is an acronym for Musically Unique Students Inspiring Konzerts. 

Talented musicians will perform creative acts for the audience to raise funds for local students struggling to make ends meet, according to organizers. 

The event is free to attend, but attendees can use dollar bills to vote for their favorite musical entertainers. Attendees are asked to bring their own seating. 

All proceeds will go to the Dorothy Parker Memorial Grant Fund to help students pay for music lessons. Students in Lewis County ages 6 to 18 can apply for assistance with music lessons. Visit lewiscountymusicteachers.org for information and to apply.
