Centralia College Event to Celebrate Hispanic Traditions, Culture
There will be a Hispanic cultural celebration in the TransAlta Commons building at Centralia College on Saturday.
The “Festejando Nuestro Dia De La Independencia” celebration is brought forth by the Human Response Network and the college.
The event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. There will be performances by Mexican dance groups Mexico Within the Heart, The Stars of Onalaska and Herencias Mexicanas. Free traditional food will also be provided.
Children’s events include activities, games, balloons, face painting and a showing of “Toy Story” in Spanish at 5 p.m.
Other sponsors of the event include the Timberland Regional Library and the United Way of Lewis County.
The TransAlta Commons building is located at 600 Centralia College Blvd.
The event is free and open to the public.

Southwest Washington Dance Center to Hold Costume Sale
The Southwest Washington Dance Center will hold a costume sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The center is cleaning out its costume closet from the year. The center suggested area resident get their Halloween shopping doneearly by visiting the sale.
The sale will be located at 437 N. Market Blvd. in Chehalis. Cash or checks are accepted.
Cowlitz Pow Wow Scheduled for Sept. 16
The Cowlitz Tribe plans to get together for a full day of drumming, dancing, vendors and a traditional salmon dinner at its 18th annual pow wow later this month.
The pow wow is scheduled to begin at noon and last until 10 p.m. Sept. 16 at Toledo High School, which is located at 1242 State Route 505 in Toledo.
Admission to the event is free. The salmon dinner is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. and is also free, although donations are appreciated. Raffles will take place throughout the day.
Veterans of all branches of the military will be honored during the grand entry. Dance competitions for children and adults will take place with cash prizes.

The Lewis County School Retirees Association will welcome Brittany Hoff Gill, a former Lewis County high school graduate from Napavine, and her husband Sam Gill who have been missionaries in Pakistan the last two years to speak about the cultural differences as well as the bombings occurring less than a mile from them and the causes for the conflict.
