Borst Home Open House Scheduled
There will be an open house at the Borst Home, Carriage House Museum and Pioneer School Saturday at Fort Borst Park, Centralia.
There will be guides at the 167-year-old house to give tours. The Carriage House will have hands-on things for children to do.
In the morning, the Master Gardeners will have classes under the overhang by the gardens for those interested. At 1:30-3 p.m. Master Gardener Cecilia Boulais will give her talk on herbs, with many herbs on display.
At 3-3:30 p.m., Jean Bluhm will give her presentation of Mary Ann Cooness Washington, wife of Centralia founder George Washington. Bluhm will cover much of George Washington’s life and family. She will be on the Borst House back porch, which is where Mary entertained her friends.
A historic group in Victorian costumes will be present to answer questions. Also, quilter Mary Ann Wilson and members of her group will be on hand.
A plan to build a pioneer church is underway. Donations, labor, materials and items are being sought for the an auction at 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Centralia Train Depot meeting room.
The Borst home is located at the south end of Fort Borst Park.

Retired Army Sergeant to Speak About Women in Vietnam
Retired Army Sgt. Major Donna Lowery, a veteran of the Vietnam War, will be speaking at the Vernetta Smith Chehalis Timberland Library 2-3 p.m. today.
She was one of the first group of women chosen to serve in the war in a non-medical capacity. Decades later, Lowery and a 20-member research team collected stories that became the book, “Women Vietnam Veterans: Our Untold Stories.”
Lowery will talk about her book and the history it chronicles.

Mount St. Helens to Host Art Eruption
Art Eruption is coming to the Mount St. Helens Science and Learning Center 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
From 1 to 3 p.m., music will be provided by Lewi Longmire and the Left Coast Roasters.
Mixed media art workshops with Art-Adventures.com will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2:30-4 p.m.
Form noon-1 p.m. and 3-4 p.m., there will be youth nature art workshops.
All-day activities will include activities and crafts for all agers and a photo booth station with props.
Also planned are nature photography workshops.
Lunch will be available for purchase 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A suggested donation of $10 per person is being requested.

“Challenging Behaviors” is the subject of a community presentation 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Centralia College.
