Classic Car Enthusiasts Brave Overcast Skies to Participate in Spring Show

Though the turnout wasn’t as high as club members hoped, more than 20 Centralia Chehalis Vintage Auto Club members still brought their classic cars out in the overcast conditions on Sunday for a car show held at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis, risking rain damage to vintage vehicles.

Though it wasn’t as polished as some of the other cars, Scooter Lopes, of Chehalis, still brought out his 1966 GMC half-ton short-bed truck. It’s his daily driver and though it originally had a 305e V6 engine, he has swapped it out with a 350 cubic inch V8 engine.

“It used to be pretty slow, but now, when it needs to move, it can move,” Lopes said.

Other participants included Edith McGuire, of Salkum, in her 1964 Chevy Corvette, Stan and Evalynne Moon, of Tumwater, with their 1967 Pontiac Firebird, Fred and Linda Moon, of Adna, in their 1929 Chevy Coupe, Sandra and Tracy Mitchell, of Chehalis, with their 1951 Studebaker Champion SE, and Skip Greenwell, of Chehalis, with his 1941 Chrysler Windsor.

Additionally, Veterans Memorial Museum Director Chip Duncan had his 1973 Jeep Gladiator J4000 “Jeep Honcho” offroad racing truck greeting museum goers and car enthusiasts at the event.

Originally started in 1962, the Centralia Chehalis Vintage Auto Club meets monthly and participates in many car shows throughout each year.
