A Chehalis woman could face a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison after her dog allegedly bit multiple people before it was euthanized.
Sasha A. Morgan, 39, was charged with one count of possession of a dangerous dog, a Class C felony that also carries up to $10,000 in fines.
Morgan made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court Wednesday, Oct. 22.
According to charging documents, on May 30, a Centralia police sergeant received a report from a man whose right forearm had “two large puncture wounds” consistent with canine bites.
The man’s arm was bleeding profusely. He said he had been bitten by Morgan’s pit bull.
The sergeant spoke with Morgan, who allegedly admitted to the accusation.
According to charging documents, Morgan’s dog had already been declared “Potentially Dangerous.” The designations are usually determined by the Lewis County Dangerous Animal Designation Board.
In April, the dog reportedly bit a woman’s face outside the local Salvation Army.
“The pit bull was taken into the care of the community service officer and euthanized
in accordance with municipal code,” the court documents stated.
During the preliminary hearing, Judge Paul Strophy agreed with Deputy Prosecutor Paul Masiello and the defense’s request that Morgan be released on her own personal recognizance.
An arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 30.
Joseph Paul Enbody has been appointed to represent Morgan.
