A Lewis County resident will be a bit warmer over the holidays thanks to Chehalis Sheet Metal.
Kim Satcher, a longtime Toledo Elementary School secretary, was selected to receive a new heating system through a company giveaway. Fittingly, the system was installed Thursday morning, which coincided with the solstice and the official start of winter.
Satcher said she was grateful “for the truly generous gifts.”
“I truly believe they were the answers to many prayers,” Satcher said.
Chehalis Sheet Metal accepted nominations earlier this month, and Satcher was selected out of more than 100 nominees for the first-time giveaway. To win, a recipient must have either been on a low or fixed income, a veteran, disabled, have no heat or be in dire need, owned their home and have ductwork installed.
The Trane indoor Air Handler system was valued between $5,000 and $5,500, and the giveaway included the removal of her old system and a programmable thermostat.
“We at Chehalis Sheet Metal are truly blessed to be able to do this,” Chehalis Sheet Metal Marketing Coordinator Sharon Tisler wrote in an email.
Satcher, who is currently going through her third round of cancer treatment, said the heating system will help as she works through treatment over the next 11 months.
“It will be a lot more comfortable during chemo,” Satcher said.
Before retiring, Satcher worked at Toledo Elementary School for more than 30 years and also served as a volunteer firefighter. Even through treatment, she serves as head of preschool and nursing at her church.
A mom of two and a grandmother of four, Satcher has maintained a positive attitude throughout treatment. After her tumor continued to shrink during a battle with glioblastoma in 2020, her doctor told her that “it had to be an answer to prayers.”
In addition to staying warm during treatment, Satcher said the new system will help lower her monthly energy bill.
