The Chehalis School District will host a career and technical education (CTE) kick-off event with speakers and breakout sessions on Wednesday, Oct. 12, the district announced this week.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. in W.F. West High School’s commons, with a half hour dedicated for refreshments and networking, according to a news release.

Keynote addresses start at 6 p.m., with Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, and Twin Transit Executive Director Joe Clark slated to speak.

"The CTE Kick-Off is an excellent opportunity for our community to come and learn about the multiple career pathways that are available for our students through our CTE program,” said Student Achievement Director Rick Goble.

CTE focuses on providing students 21st-century skills along with academic and technical skills they will need to be competitive in their future endeavors, according to a news release.

“W.F. West High School is very fortunate to have a very large and diverse CTE department, offering students a range of opportunities from machining to commercial art, to exploratory classes in the medical field,” said the district in a news release.
