Chehalis Outfitters will host a free pressure canning seminar on Saturday, Jan. 17, offering community members a hands-on opportunity to learn how to safely make and preserve homemade stock.
The seminar will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be led by Master Food Preserver Wanda with Steger Family Farms. The class will cover the basics of making stock and proper pressure canning techniques and is suitable for both beginners and experienced canners.
Attendees will learn how to turn leftover chicken or turkey carcasses into rich, flavorful stock, a timely skill following the holiday season. Participants are encouraged to freeze carcasses in advance and bring questions to the seminar.
The event will take place at the former Jeremy’s Building, located at the north end of the Chehalis Outfitters parking lot in Chehalis. The seminar is free to attend and open to the public.
“This seminar is about giving people the confidence and knowledge to safely preserve food at home,” said Kelli Erb, store manager of Chehalis Outfitters. “Pressure canning stock is a practical skill that saves money, reduces waste, and helps families make the most of what they already have.”
Community members are encouraged to bring a friend and attend together.
Chehalis outfitters is at 1757 N. National Ave. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m
