Chehalis Oldest Home Restored

Posted

25 years ago, in 1982 The old McFadden log home at 475 S.W. Chehalis Ave. was being restored by Chehalis City Councilman Howard Miller, who lived there for 46 years. The home is named after Judge Obediah B. McFadden, first chief justice of the Washington Territory, The Chronicle wrote. He moved his family into the new home in 1859. The log home had a 10-foot ceiling and an attic large enough for four good-sized bedrooms. McFadden built the home on half of the S.S. Saunders Donation Land Claim in what then was known as Saundersville. The McFadden family members lived in the Saunders home while their new home was being built.
