A Chehalis man has been booked into the Lewis County Jail on two warrants both outstanding for over two years — one for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender.

Julian Velazquez, 25, was charged with escape from community custody in November 2023. In January 2024, he was charged with failure to register as a sex offender. Judges ordered arrest warrants in both cases.

Velazquez made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday. Judge Joely Yeager ordered that bail remain set at $35,000 — the collective amount set in the two warrants.

According to court documents, Velazquez was convicted of a Class A sex offense as a juvenile in 2015, which required him to register as a sex offender.

He has two adult convictions for failing to register as a sex offender, one in 2022 and the other in 2021.

According to court documents, Velazquez was required to check in with the Department of Corrections following his release from jail in September 2023, as part of his community custody.

“He was provided the next check in date of September 26, 2023,” prosecutors wrote in a probable cause affidavit. “Velazquez did not check with DOC on that day, and attempts to locate/communicate with him were unsuccessful.”

Velazquez was scheduled for an arraignment on Thursday. He remained in custody at the Lewis County Jail as of Thursday morning.
