A 42-year-old Chehalis man was arrested Saturday morning for first-degree robbery and first-degree extortion after allegedly showing a Centralia convenience store employee a gun and demanding money.

Jeremy A. Sturdevant was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, Sturdevant allegedly entered a convenience store in the 1000 block of Ellsbury Street, lifted his shirt, showed the convenience store employee that he had a gun in his waistband, and demanded money. Police didn’t identify the business, but the Shell station off of the Mellen Street Interstate 5 exit operates in the 1000 block of Ellsbury Street.

The suspect exited the store without taking anything and fled the area in a light-colored Saturn, according to Centralia police.

Centralia officers identified a possible suspect, Sturdevant, who lived at apartments in the 2200 block of Southwest Salsbury Avenue.

“Officers requested the Chehalis Police Department to check the apartments, and they located the suspect vehicle,” according to Centralia police. “Centralia and Chehalis police officers, with a Centralia K9 officer, surrounded the suspect’s apartment and waited for Centralia detectives to arrive. The suspect was taken into custody at his apartment and was identified as 42-year-old Jeremy A. Sturdevant of Chehalis.”

Centralia detectives served a search warrant at Sturdevant’s apartment where they recovered multiple firearms, according to police.

No further information was released.
