Chehalis-Centralia Airport hosting open house for public input on master plan update

The Chehalis-Centralia Airport will hold the first of three public open house meetings concerning the airport’s master plan update on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.

It will be held at the Chehalis-Centralia Airport’s Scott Crossfield Terminal, located at 880 N.W. Airport Road in Chehalis. Airport staff are looking to gather public input on the future of the airport.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines recommend airport master plans be updated every 10 years, according to a news release. The Chehalis-Centralia Airport’s master plan was created in 2001.

Airport master plans are created with studies looking at the airport’s short-, medium- and long-term development plans to ensure it can meet future aviation demand.

With the predicted population growth over the next few decades in Lewis County, air traffic at the airport will likely increase. The studies needed to look into these future development plans are funded primarily by the FAA.

“A master plan study is not conducted to resolve airport maintenance, operations, property leasing, management (or) policies issues,” the release stated. “However, when these issues are identified during the master planning process, they will be documented and presented to airport management so that they can be considered outside of the master plan process.”
