Pulling double duty Wednesday night in back-to-back duals, the Rochester boys wrestling team hosted both Centralia and W.F. West, and were upended as a team in both contests.

Against W.F. West, the Warriors lost 74-6, with just Reece Calica getting a victory at 138 pounds while the Bearcats took all the other matchups.

Winners for the matches that were wrestled by the Bearcats include Lewis Allen (113), Race Scalici (132), Cristo Parriott (145), Kage Homan (170), Waylen Land (182), Angelo Peters (195), Andrew Penland (220), and Daniel Matagi (285).

In the second dual, the Tigers earned a 52-28 victory over the Warriors in a back-and-forth meet that featured key wins for Centralia in the heavier weight classes.

Winners for the Tigers in matches that weren’t forfeited included Antonio Campos (132), Chris Mendoza (170), Danny Cisneros (195), and Eddie Mojica (220). Winners for Rochester in matches that weren’t forfeited were Rylan Calica (113), Reece Calica (138), Logan Brady (145), and Jaden Nichols (285).

All of Centralia’s wrestlers that won did so by fall save for Cisneros’ 6-5 minor decision win over Jack Dune, and all of Rochester’s wrestlers that won did so by fall except for Brady’s major decision victory over Jack Klawitter.

“Our guys wrestled hard tonight and got a little better,” Centralia coach Scott Phillips said. “We still have a lot of little things that we need to clean up, but overall I am pretty happy with the dual.”

Phillips commended Mendoza for a strong night after about a year of organized wrestling this season.

“He loves the sport and has worked really hard to get better,” Phillips said of Mendoza.
