Points were not at a premium in Sammamish on Friday night, when the Centralia football team came out on top of a 57-40 shootout against the Totems.
The Tigers are now 3-0 for the first time since 2010, according to MaxPreps.
“Proud of the guys,” Centralia coach Tyler Gedney said. “We played hard for four quarters through a lot of adversity and things out of our control.”
Sammamish got on the board first, but Centralia responded immediately by returning the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown. The Tigers answered another Sammamish touchdown later in the first, and they took the lead with two straight touchdowns in the second.
Centralia refused to let up after the break, scoring four more touchdowns in the second half to maintain its lead.
Bill Volavola finished with 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, Enzo Montee added 65 yards and a touchdown, and Andres Coronel logged 52 yards and two touchdowns.
Caden Erickson finished a perfect 5 for 5 through the air with 84 passing yards and two touchdowns, which went to Jeremy Frady and Gabriel Salazar. Frady finished with 34 receiving yards, Alex Frias added 27, and Gabriel Salazar logged 23.
Centralia also didn’t turn the ball over, something they’ve only done once in the first three games.
“That’s a huge key to our success,” Gedney said.
The Tigers will look to improve to 4-0 next Friday, Sept. 25, when they host Annie Wright.
