Nicholaus Martin, a 2014 Centralia High School graduate and longtime resident of the Hub City, is accomplishing a lifelong dream of opening a chiropractic clinic in Lewis County.
He founded Balance Chiropractic in Toledo, which celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 10, and officially began treating patients Friday, Dec. 12.
Balance Chiropractic is located at 100 S. Third St., Unit 100, in Toledo.
Martin, who also owns Evergreen Family Chiropractic in Olympia, has been working to find a space to operate in his home county for a year.
Balance Chiropractic will be open Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours may change as the demand fluctuates, Martin said.
“It’s always been my goal to end up back this way. We found a space that opened up, and we were able to jump on board and get it going within a few weeks,” he said. “I feel more at home. Toledo is the perfect little community for this. I really feel like this is the right choice and the right thing for me and my family.”
Martin has been in practice for four years and earned bachelor’s degrees from Central Washington University and University of Western States. He also earned his doctorate of chiropractic from the University of Western States.
Balance Chiropractic will offer adjustments, cold laser therapy, soft tissue work and personalized treatment plans for patients. Additionally, Martin hopes to hone in on athletes, including offering free spinal screenings.
He competed for the Centralia Tigers tennis, basketball, baseball and track teams. Through his education, Martin was a mentee of a golf chiropractor who worked for the PGA Tour and learned about treatment of athletes.
“I want to get into that community and start helping young athletes grow and educate them on what chiropractic and sports medicine can do,” he said.
Martin said the ribbon-cutting ceremony was successful, despite it being the first he had ever organized. Even with the flooding in Lewis County, a strong contingent of community members attended the event.
“I had no idea what to expect, but it was great. We had a really awesome turnout,” he said. “We got to see a lot of people come to check out the space. The feeling that patients get when they walk into the office is one of the most important things for me. I want to feel approachable. I want to feel that people can come in and know that they’re going to be in good hands and that it’s somebody who cares about their health.”
Balance Chiropractic is taking new patients and is running a new patient special for $79 for non-insurance patients. The clinic also works with patients with insurance and clients with work injuries, motor vehicle accidents and personal injuries, among others.
“We just want to open the doors to the community and provide care that’s accessible and affordable,” Martin said.
