Centralia Police Department’s New Flock Cameras Assist in Catching Burglary Suspects

Posted

Earlier this month, The Chronicle reported that on April 8, Centralia police officers received a report concerning four suspects involved in an attempted overnight robbery at a North Tower Avenue business.

The suspects were already wanted for a string of burglaries in the Puget Sound region, where they targeted businesses’ cash registers and ATMs, according to Flock Safety representative Connor Metz.

Utilizing the newly-installed Flock Safety cameras, the Centralia Police Department was able to identify two vehicles associated with the suspects and were on the scene on April 8 within minutes. Two of the four suspects were arrested. Two suspects remain on the run, though they have been identified.

Flock Safety cameras utilized automated license plate reader technology to alert officers of the suspects’ vehicles presence in Centralia, leading to the arrest of two of them. The Centralia Police Department is currently in the midst of a two-month trial period using Flock Safety cameras. If the City of Centralia decides to keep the cameras after the free two-month trial period ends, the cost will be $2,500 per camera with the software included.
