Estebon E. Perkins, 41, of Centralia, was charged Tuesday in Lewis County Superior Court with one count of motor vehicle theft, a class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

According to court documents, on Aug. 30, a man reported that his vehicle had been stolen by Perkins, whom he had apparently met a few days earlier.

The man stated that he and the defendant were hanging out at the man’s residence. At one point, the man went into another room. When he returned, the man saw that “the keys to his vehicle were missing and the defendant was gone,” according to court documents.

The man went outside, just in time to see Perkins allegedly drive away in his car.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash or bond during a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Sept. 2. An arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 4, with Rachel Hunt assigned to represent Perkins.
